Image-guided actively targeted liposomes for treatment of solid tumors
Liposomal drug delivery systems have, thus far, enabled an improved toxicity profile of chemotherapeutic drugs, albeit with no demonstration of superior clinical efficacy to current standard of care. Limited bioavailability hinders the full release of the anti-cancer agent at the target site, resulting in sub-therapeutic drug exposure and potentially, drug resistance. Active targeting is one strategy which aims to overcome these limitations by promoting cellular uptake of the liposome-based drug. My research employs image-based methods to evaluate the influence of active targeting on the whole-body distribution, tumor uptake and microdistribution of actively-targeted liposomes
